In the midst of an unprecedented health crisis, the French group LVMH announces that it is joining forces to fight the coronavirus. The luxury giant will use its perfume and cosmetics factories to produce gel alcohol for French hospitals - especially Paris public hospitals.

The initiative was released last Sunday. "LVMH will use the production lines of its perfume and cosmetics brands (...) to produce large quantities of gel disinfectants as of Monday," he said in a statement. "These products will be delivered free of charge to the health authorities", he added.

Starting this week, it is expected that around 12 tons of gel alcohol will be produced in the three LVMH factories - which are used for cosmetics and perfumes by brands such as Dior, Givenchy and Guerlain.

The hope is that the product will help fill the global shortage of sanitizers and slow down the disease that has already exceeded 5,000 cases in France alone.
