The first impression
If you drive with the Zermatt-typical scooter at the Schweizerhof, everything is for the first time as it always was: the hotel is still located on the bustling Hauptstrasse, the facade is still the XL-Chalet, as it was built in 1982, and the wooden doors are as big and heavy as they used to be. However, if you set foot in the 95-room house, you will soon be surrounded by a warm, modern and lively atmosphere: you will find yourself in front of a large lounge that is converted into the "Schweizerhof Kitchen" with an open, American barbecue grill in the evening Bar with beautiful marble cladding, in the corner a DJ who plays lounge tunes. A piece of cosmopolitanism, just at the foot of the Matterhorn.
Hotelier Michel Reybier, who was responsible for the eight-month renovation and reopening, knows his way around with luxurious comforts: his portfolio includes top names such as La Réserve, Victoria Jungfrau Collections and Mama Shelter. His hotel concept at the foot of the Matterhorn? To create a chalet that impresses with luxury, authenticity and a feel-good atmosphere. This guideline can also be felt in the 95 rooms and suites: all of the rooms between 17 and 50 square meters are modern, comfortable and stylish. The gadgets? The Dyson hair dryer waiting in your luxurious leather box in the bathroom, a TV with screen-mirroring capability and an app that allows guests to self-check in and make restaurant reservations.
At the Schweizerhof Zermatt you can choose from just three different restaurants. In the "Schweizerhof Kitchen", which is located in the front, very lively area of the hotel, you can eat for example the finest American cuisine. The open barbecue grill conjures steaks, grilled fish and homemade pizzas. If you long for lighter, fresh cuisine, you can be placed in the back of the hotel. In the "La Muña", the Peruvian-Asian hotspot, which attracts many non-hotel guests, the finest sharing dishes are offered: From ceviche to tempura, from black cod in miso sauce to fried rice and salmon - nothing is left to be desired. If you want it to be a raclette or fondue, you can eat in the "Cheese-Factory", a small fondue-stübli next to the hotel entrance, which is dedicated to the cheese.
Little tip of the editor: In all three restaurants they should leave room for dessert! The caramelized Mille Feuille is gigantic, the Schoggimousse thought for 2 people, the lava cake with vanilla ice cream a dream of a sweet. Strike!
With the new guide "Dream, Taste, Chill" the relaxation should not be neglected. Who has spent the day on the mountain, should also come in the evening at his expense. The ultimate relaxation is provided by the spacious spa landscape including swimming pool and fitness area. From two Jacuzzis over three saunas and steam baths to the beautiful relaxation room with aquarium - in the basement of the hotel, the day can end the ultimate.
