No one saw&nbsp;it coming: Kristen Stewart was chosen to play <a href="https://www.lofficiel.be/mode/lady-di-et-si-on-s-inspirait-de-ses-tenues-iconiques-pour-nos-looks-de-printemps" target="_blank">Princess Diana</a> in a new royal biopic &quot;Spencer&quot; , the film will retrace the events that followed&nbsp;a very specific weekend in <a href="https://www.lofficiel.be/mode/lady-di-3-de-ses-tenues-rares-et-iconiques-vendues-pour-300-000-dollars-aux-encheres" target="_blank">Lady Di&#39;s</a> life in the early 1990s: when she decided to end her marriage to Prince Charles during her Christmas holidays with the royal family at Sandringham.

The film will be directed&nbsp;by&nbsp;Pablo Larra&iacute;n , who also produced and directed in 2016 Jackie , the acclaimed biopic centered on the life of Jackie Kennedy , in which Natalie Portman&nbsp;starred in&nbsp;the leading role. The Chilean director explained that Kristen Stewart was chosen to play the role of Diana for her ability to look&nbsp;fragile and strong at the same time and her intriguing mysterious air.

Kristen Stewart will be the second actress to play&nbsp;Lady&nbsp;Diana for the screen. Before her, the British actress Emma Corrin , unknown till then, was chosen for this role in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficiel.be/art-culture/the-crown-emma-corrin-interprete-la-princesse-diana-dans-la-serie-netflix" target="_blank">season 4 of the super production of Netflix The Crown</a> . For his biopic, the director decided to dissect the story to tell the story of how a woman decided not to be the Queen of England.
