Catherine O&#39;Hara , a star of North American comedy and a beloved face on film and television – she rose to global fame with her roles in “ Beetlejuice” and “Home Alone” – has died at the age of 71.

An award-winning actress, winner of Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards , Catherine O&#39;Hara has left an indelible mark on the history of entertainment with a career spanning over fifty years, spanning theater, sketch comedy, arthouse cinema, and contemporary television. Born in Toronto in 1954, Catherine O&#39;Hara trained artistically at Chicago&#39;s legendary Second City Theatre , a talent hotbed that defined an era, with names including Joan Rivers , &nbsp; Bill Murray , John Belushi , Dan Aykroyd , &nbsp; Steve Carell , Stephen Colbert.

This was also the beginning of his working partnership with Eugene Levy , destined to become one of the longest-running and most fruitful in international comedy. With the television program &quot;Second City Television,&quot; which aired from 1976 to 1984, O&#39;Hara established himself in the 1980s with a chameleon-like, refined, and surreal style of comedy, capable of alternating parody and emotional depth.

The general public has consecrated her to cinema with roles that have become cult: the eccentric Delia Deetz in “ Beetlejuice ” , the desperate and unforgettable mother of Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin ) in “ Home Alone ” , up to the collaborations with Christopher Guest in mockumentaries like “ Best in Show ”. Each character, even the most caricatural, is always crossed by a streak of melancholy that will become her distinctive feature.

In the 2010s, Catherine O&#39;Hara found new success on “ Schitt&#39;s Creek ” on Canadian television. For six seasons, the series follows the adventures of the Roses, a wealthy family who suddenly finds themselves penniless. The government leaves them only a property in Schitt&#39;s Creek, a rather depressing town in the middle of nowhere. The role of the mother, Moira, earned her the 2020 Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and the adoration of a new generation of viewers. Married to production designer Bo Welch since 1992, O&#39;Hara was the mother of two children.
