Jonny Johannson talks about the Acne Studios Fall Winter 2021 men's collection in an interview.

<a href="https://www.instagram.com/acnestudios/" target="_blank">Acne Studios</a> presents the Fall Winter 2021 men&#39;s collection designed by Jonny Johannson. A collection that analyzes the visual identity and the experimentation process of the Swedish brand established in <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/interviste/intervista-jonny-johansson-creative-director-acne-studios-floragatan-13" target="_blank">Floragatan 13</a> <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/interviste/intervista-jonny-johansson-creative-director-acne-studios-floragatan-13" target="_blank">in Stockholm</a>. Jonny Johannson studies a men&#39;s wardrobe that sets the stage for the future of Acne Studios menswear. A free and creative approach that dialogues with the female universe thanks to wide silhouettes, comfy cuts and reinterpreted traditional male tailoring. Double-breasted jackets in technical wool decorated with mother-of-pearl buttons, suits in cut and printed ripstop fabrics with a denim patchwork. There is no lack of collaboration in a workmanlike manner, this time for the graphics designed by the contemporary artist <a href="https://www.instagram.com/robbie.exe/" target="_blank">Robbie Barrat</a> applied on tailored suits. <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/interviste/intervista-jonny-johansson-creative-director-acne-studios-floragatan-13" target="_blank">Acne Studios Creative Director&#39;s</a> much-loved uniform workwear comes in the form of oversized dungarees crafted from satin and pinstriped wool flannel. The playful component is expressed in the Fall Winter 2021 collection with knitwear, Donegal wool sweaters, which feature oversized polka dots in soft mohair. And finally the rock &amp; roll soul of Jonny Johannson with new accessories: scarves cut in padded organic cotton jersey, leather bags with belt handles and buckles, shoes made with the patchwork technique with a high crepe sole, pointed boots with wooden heel and brushed-effect lace-ups. 
 
How did the Fall Winter 2021 men&#39;s collection develop? 
I wanted to take a new design approach to Acne Studios menswear. The global situation of the last year has allowed us to look inside, renewing our commitment to an experimental design studio. Experimentation is what I love when drawing something. It&#39;s like an artist&#39;s studio, or a band&#39;s rehearsal room. The resulting look is always very Acne Studios, characterized by light, sensual and wearable garments. 
 
What are the themes of the collection? 
The wardrobe of garments is characterized by a soft silhouette coming from a sporty casual look, specifically golf. I have many memories of golf from my grandparents and my father&#39;s family, where everyone played golf. But it&#39;s not a golf collection - it&#39;s heavily reinterpreted through Acne Studios&#39; gaze. Then I have an unspoken desire to become a rock star, and that sartorial glam is also found in the collection. I also thought about the archetypes that make up this wardrobe of garments. It&#39;s not about trying to achieve the perfect archetype, it&#39;s more about exploring garments with a sense of playfulness.

Tell us about the tailoring designed for the Fall Winter 2021 men&#39;s collection 
The shape of the dresses is fluid and unstructured, but maintains a clean line. We played with the prints, like a copy of a fake Acne Studios logo I found on the internet, which I then repeated until it fades abstractly as it runs down the body. There is also a print of a denim patchwork, which plays with archetypal ideas of formality. Traditional dresses are cut super loose and relaxed, like a technical wool double-breasted suit that looks elegant and almost casual. 
 
What do you like about vests? 
I think men should wear them more. With a vest you can straighten a man&#39;s body. It is a very masculine item and gives structure to the body, which is rare in menswear. I think when worn alone it is super sexy. Today the idea of a three-piece suit seems superfluous, but by itself, the vest has a very specific function. 
 
What about overalls? 
There is a hint of apr&egrave;s-ski in the collection, and several winks to ski salopettes. Then, Acne Studios started with denim, and overalls are a super classic denim workwear piece. I thought it would be interesting to make them in traditional tailored fabrics, like this pinstripe wool, to play further with these ideas of archetypes. 
 
There are other elements of workwear though ... 
We made a taffeta workwear jacket, as well as another pair of satin dungarees. I liked the effect of using these fine fabrics for utilitarian designs. I&#39;m interested in this contrast of materials, such as crochet print velvet tank tops, faux fur western jackets or tie-dye velvet trousers. 
 
Tell us about the accessories 
I liked the idea of being able to use them for this feeling of making a look elegant. We made an oversized scarf in reverse-dyed cold-dyed padded organic cotton jersey, so big it was almost an outerwear. All bags are male versions of women&#39;s models, because the genders have almost merged into one. I wanted the shoes with crepe soles to look practically handcrafted, have something very hippy, while the white ones are very rock&#39;n&#39;roll. They are my favorites.
