For New Single "boyfriend," Ariana Grande and Social House Engage in a Chic

The star may be on tour, but that won't stop her.

In the midst of her travels on the Sweetener World Tour, Ariana Grande just dropped a twisted-yet-authentic modern love song entitled “boyfriend," simultaneously releasing an equally melodramatic music video to match. Does this girl ever sleep?!? After making a vow to release new music at the same fast pace as today’s rappers, Grande was hard at work on the road with tour openers Social House in order to make this relatable bop happen. The song explores the uncharted territories of present-day romance and the excitingly stressful period of limbo in undefined relationships.

The music video features a complicated attraction between Ariana and Social House member Michael Foster as they battle for each other’s attention in a jealous feud, and it’s literally heart-wrenching, in all its gory. Grande shoots an arrow through the hand of her competition, and Foster kills a man in a bloody mess after ripping open his chest and pulling out his heart out of vengeance. This comically destructive video is a glorified drama that highlights the insanity that ensues upon playing games with a crush. Through all of the violence, the music star embraced fashion with a capital F in a fluffy Givenchy look, perfectly aligning with her recent #Arivenchy campaign with the fashion label.

"We wanted to make something uplifting that captures that feeling of being afraid to take the leap & trust, being afraid of being hurt or feeling like you won’t be enough for that person...but also how it feels to have a crippling crush on someone," Grande explained on Twitter about the song's meaning.

All of these emotions are certainly present in both the lyrics and video, adding another personable melody to the Dangerous Woman’s extensive repertoire of love songs. As the hit singer continues her tour, “boyfriend” will surely be climbing the charts. “I’m so successful,” the 2018 Billboard Woman of the Year sings in hit song "successful," and let’s face it, she’s right!
