The 2024 award season begins with the upcoming year's Golden Globe nominations.&nbsp;

The time is finally here to reflect on this year's best film and TV releases with the 2024 Golden Globe nominations.
To no one's surprise, Barbie and Succession are coming out on top with nine nominations. Barbie, nominated for Best Motion Picture &ndash; Musical or Comedy, Best Director, and Best Original Song, among others, has revolutionized 2023 with its influence on culture. HBO's Succession had an uber-successful four-season run with nominations including Best Television Series &ndash; Drama and several Best Performance categories. Other notable nominations include Oppenheimer, with just one less nomination than its rival Barbie, Poor Things, with seven nominations, and a number of TV shows like Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building, and The Bear. One notable snub is The Color Purple. The musical reimagining of the classic film was not nominated for Best Motion Picture &ndash; Musical or Comedy.
This year, two categories have been added to the roster: Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television and Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. The first category recognizes comedians with their own comedy specials outside of social media. When announcing the introduction of the Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, the Golden Globes said, &ldquo;a box office receipt total/gross of $150 million, of which $100 million must come from the U.S. domestic box office, and/or obtain commensurate digital streaming viewership recognized by trusted industry sources.&rdquo;&nbsp;
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie sneaked its way into the Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category alongside Barbie, Oppenheimer, and other great films of the year. The winning film will be judged "based on excellence."
The other major change to the Golden Globes is the ownership of the event. Eldridge Industries and Dick Clark Productions bought the Golden Globe assets. With new ownership this year, the Golden Globes has expanded its voting pool to include about 300 journalists internationally and is 60% racially and ethnically diverse. After last year's awards were criticized for a lack of diversity in nominations and winners, the new owners increased their focus on diversity. &ldquo;Our voters represent 76 countries bringing a unique international perspective on nominating the best in motion pictures and television this year,&rdquo; Helen Hoehne, the Golden Globes president, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.&nbsp;
