From February 22nd to 24th, 2026, Milan hosted the 101st edition of the international footwear fair. It is increasingly global in scope and forward-looking.

For its 101st edition, Micam has chosen to relaunch itself with renewed energy, opening a new chapter in its role as a global reference point for the footwear industry. While this year&#39;s best performers came from France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Greece, and outside the European Union, Japan and the United States, the fair has confirmed its high international appeal and its central role in supporting the footwear industry&#39;s business processes and internationalization.

<h4 dir="ltr">The numbers of the 2026 edition</h4> &quot;The 20,000 visitors who came to Milan for Micam are crucial for our exhibitors. This is a workplace, where companies bring home the orders they need to start production,&quot; says Giovanna Ceolini , President of Micam and Assocalzaturifici . &quot;What we at Assocalzaturifici can do is boost incoming visitors, thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (MAECI) and ICE, which have allowed us to bring in double the number of foreign visitors compared to last year. Our job is to reach out, call, and make it clear that it&#39;s important to be there,&quot; continues Ceolini.

<h3 dir="ltr">Markets: opportunities and critical issues</h3> When asked about the markets with the greatest growth potential, Ceolini paints a complex picture: &quot;We have undeniable geopolitical problems. The CIS and Ukraine on one side, America with tariffs on the other.&quot; The real concern is China: &quot;What has put us in a bit of trouble is China, with its government favoring domestic production over imports.&quot; Despite the challenges, the approach remains proactive: &quot;We are still trying to maintain relationships, undertake missions, and see if we can find ways to help our entrepreneurs. Emerging markets are the Arab countries, but logistics there is not yet well developed.&quot;<h3 dir="ltr"> Sustainability: between commitment and regulatory complexity</h3> On the environmental sustainability front, Ceolini outlines the ongoing efforts: &quot;We&#39;ve developed WCS software to understand how sustainable the company is. There aren&#39;t any clear regulations yet, so we&#39;re waiting for guidelines. We know what we need to do, but we don&#39;t have the tools yet.&quot; The president, however, emphasizes the intrinsic sustainability of the sector: &quot;All the companies in the supply chain are sustainable because the process for recovering materials is short, for example. Or in terms of economic sustainability, our employees have fair labor contracts.&quot;

The 101st edition also brings a physical transformation of the spaces. The revamped layout—the result of the business plan developed in collaboration with KPMG—is designed to offer a more fluid, contemporary, and engaging exhibition experience. The Future of Retail area showcases the technologies redesigning the retail store of the future. Among the solutions on display are SizeWise , which leverages artificial intelligence to optimize size recommendations and reduce returns; Weew , a SaaS platform that integrates digital twins, ESG data management, and AI-based research tools; and Solaya , which allows brands to produce high-quality photographic content directly from smartphones, reducing production times and costs. Pavilion 3 will also host seminars and fashion shows, confirming its role as the place where the present and future of the industry meet and interact.

<h3 dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">Craftsmanship, training and startups</h3> If Pavilion 3 is the temple of digital innovation, Pavilion 5 is the beating heart of creativity, education, and emerging entrepreneurship. This is where M&amp;M - The Hub debuts, a new initiative developed in synergy with MIPEL, bringing the MICAM Academy to life as a true artisanal workshop. 500 students from specialized schools explored the Art of Footwear by creating unique prototypes: one-piece uppers designed with cutting-edge orthopedic materials, barefoot soles supplied by Vibram, the embroidered &quot;Micam Milano&quot; logo, and an NFC tag that previews the product&#39;s future digital passport, allowing smartphone access to the entire production process. Under the guidance of Arsutoria master craftsmen and with the creative input of comic book artists, 100 exclusive pairs were created, unique pieces that showcase the intersection of tradition and modernity. The Italian Startup area also gives a voice to the most innovative companies on the national scene.

<h3 dir="ltr">&quot;Primordial Renaissance&quot;: Next Season&#39;s Macro-Trends</h3> Every edition of Micam brings with it an inspiring theme, and the 2026 edition is no exception: &quot;Primordial Renaissance&quot; is the conceptual framework that guides the entire event, a call to rediscover origins filtered through the gaze of the future. This is the context for the collaboration with Livetrend , which has produced a Trend Guide based on the analysis of millions of data points from the web and social media. Four macro-trends have been identified for the coming season: Bucolic Slumber, Lavish Subversion, Primal Futurism, and Dark History . This strategic forecasting tool allows buyers to precisely refine their assortments, reducing uncertainty and increasing the relevance of commercial decisions.

<h3 dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">Emerging Designers: The Future of Footwear</h3> For the eighth edition of the Emerging Designers project, Micam 101 brings twelve young international brands to the fair, selected through a judging process curated by a panel of fashion and communications experts. From France to Ireland, from Korea to Nigeria, passing through Peru and Italy, the selected designers showcase an extraordinarily diverse creative landscape, united by common values: sustainability, craftsmanship, and a strong identity. Some, like Nuosmiq, transform industrial waste into genderless collections, while others, like Le Signe, produce their soles entirely in-house in their Turin workshop. Others, like Wuman, intertwine design and African cultural heritage into footwear that is, first and foremost, a work of art. Different stories, different visions, but one certainty: the future of footwear is being built today, in the hands of those unafraid to experiment.
