Pierpaolo Piccioli is definitely winning the collaboration game at the moment. Following the reveal of the Onitsuka Tiger x Valentino capsule just a few days ago, the celebrated designer is back in the headlines with another PPP partnership, this time in tandem with Moncler. As part of the Genius project, which sees the luxury house drop new collections by a host of guest talents every month, Piccioli gives his take on the iconic Moncler puffer with a breathtaking series of padded, floor-length, and full-skirted dresses. First seen during Milan Fashion Week last February, the 1 Moncler Pierpaolo Piccioli collection finally hits stores today, which is undoubtedly sweet news to the ears of die-hards the world over.
A collaboration set within a collaboration, the erudite Italian recruited the help of supermodel Liya Kebede and her brand lemlem for his collection of voluminous nylon lacqué gowns. While similar in shape, each rendition of otherworldly outerwear remains distinct in colour and form. Hued in a varied palette that ranges from black and white to pastel pink and daffodil yellow, some of the pieces feature dramatic, cocoon-like hoods, while others have bulbous flared sleeves or tent-like trains, and one particularly memorable version drapes off-the-shoulder with a huge bow trailing down the back.
Reflecting the Ethiopian roots of Kebede, all versions showcase striped patterns that mimic traditional African fabrics, which the model champions by commissioning local artisans across Africa to produce handmade textiles. The ethereal elegance of Piccioli meets Kebede’s heritage and Moncler’s innovation in a harmonious blend of couture, culture, and cool that you won’t want to miss out on, even if the only kind of cold you might face here is a blasting air-conditioner.
