Creative director Simon Holloway takes on the codes of English elegance reinterpreted with a fresh touch.

The Società del Giardino, in the heart of Milan, always has something magical. Founded in 1783, it is among the ten oldest clubs in the world, as well as a meeting point over time for kings, emperors, statesmen, and prominent figures, so showing there is an easy win. At Dunhill , however, with the men&#39;s fall winter 2025 show , they were not satisfied with the noble atmosphere and transformed the rooms into a high-class parlor, with guests seated around tables where they could chat, sip excellent wine and nibble on delicious appetizers. As the last show of the day, fashion people could not have asked for anything better, because creative director Simon Holloway combined the exquisite welcome with a collection that is very British, but with a very fresh touch.

The inspiration comes from the 1930s suits created by London tailor Fredrick Scholte and made famous by the Duke of Windsor, still an undisputed icon of elegance. The effect is inevitably stylish, but Simon Holloway is good at not falling into the literal, indeed he helps himself with a vaguely jaunty styling even when the suit would suggest the opposite, perhaps turning the cuffs of the jackets just a little. The camel blazer, for example, is paired with a matching shirt, a scarf around the neck and creased jeans. The corduroy of the high-waisted trousers dyes it in shades of lemon yellow. And even when the mismatched suit gives way to a double-breasted grey suit, there is always a detail that artfully dishevels the ensemble, say a scarf tied over the shirt and tie. Finally, an honorable mention for the casting, a concentration of grace, personality and beauty.
