From intergalactic looks to Italian glam, here are the five films that have the best makeup and hair according to the Academy Awards.

The 2022 Academy Awards are happening on March 27. The nominees for this year's award show were announced at the beginning of this week. For Best Makeup and Hairstyling, the teams on <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/fashion/coming-2-america-kiki-layne-80s-trends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Coming 2 America</a>,&nbsp;Cruella,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/film-tv/timothee-chalamet-confirms-dune-part-two-instagram-zendaya-movie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dune</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/film-tv/jessica-chastain-interview-eyes-of-tammy-faye" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Eyes of Tammy Faye</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/pop-culture/house-of-gucci-premiere-red-carpet-lady-gaga-jared-leto-salma-hayek" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House of Gucci</a>&nbsp;received nominations for their cinematic artistry. In honor of their hard work, L'OFFICIEL&nbsp;is taking a look at what went into the styling on these iconic films.&nbsp;

Coming 2 America: Mike Marino, Stacey Morris, and Carla Farmer

Hairstylists Carla Farmer and Stacey Morris and makeup artist Mike Marino are the first team nominated for an Oscar this season. The group is nominated for their work in Coming 2 America, a film in which Eddie Murphy and his "wife" Arsenio Hall are from a royal family who travel the world to look for Murphy's long lost son, played by Jermaine Fowler, while trying to make peace with their sister country Nextdoria.&nbsp;
For hair, Farmer and Morris framed most of the looks around the Afro-punk movement. Farmer and Morris created tons of wigs for this production, and braided hair until their hands were sore. For Wesley Snipes&rsquo;s Nextdorian look, Farmer took inspiration from the Rwandan tribe Amasunzu, and braided Snipe's hair in a way that resembles mountains with their won carved out valleys.&nbsp;
Taking over for Rick Baker, the prosthetics artist who worked on the original Coming to America, Marino was responsible for the prosthetics for eight of the characters in the film.&nbsp;

Cruella: Nadia Stacey, Naomi Donne, and Julia Vernon

For Disney's Cruella, Nadia Stacey, Naomi Donne, and Julia Vernon give the iconic character a punk look. Set in the '70s orphan girl Estella is transforming her identity into the fashion icon that becomes Cruella. Taking inspiration from the London punk scene that was happening in the real-life '70s, Stacey wanted to emulate that aesthetic into the hair and makeup for the film.
The team had creative freedom over the entire look but were required to keep the iconic black and white hair. As Estella starts turning more into Cruella, Stacey, Donne, and Vernon gave the character a darker look. They made her makeup more dramatic to show the confidence she was gaining. One of the most iconic looks from the film, "the future" spray-painted on Cruella's face, was inspired by British punk band The Sex Pistols. Known for their album Never Mind the Bollocks, the&nbsp;Cruella&nbsp;team took inspiration from the text and spray-painted nature of the album cover and used the aesthetic for "the future" look.&nbsp;

Dune: Donald Mowat, Love Larson, and Eva von Bahr

The sci-fi movie that took over social media,&nbsp;Dune&nbsp;had amazing hair and makeup. A story about an intergalactic battle between the House of Atreides, House Harkonnen, and the Fremen, Dune&nbsp;explores natural and alien looks.
Head of hair and makeup, Donald Mowat, wanted to keep <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/beauty/how-did-zendaya-become-the-most-bankable-personality-of-the-moment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zendaya</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/film-tv/timothee-chalamet-dune-french-dispatch-release-goldenboy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Timothe&eacute; Chalamet</a>'s looks as natural as possible. Zendaya's hair was treated with sea salt spray to achieve the messy and windswept look it had in the film, while Chalamet's hair was left natural.
For makeup, Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac all received minimal makeup, but the big makeup work came into play for Stellan Skarsg&aring;rd's character. With the help of prosthetics artists Love Larson and Eva von Bahr, Skarsg&aring;rd was transformed into a giant hairless dictator. The overall look weighed about 20-25 pounds, but luckily Skarsg&aring;rd was only shooting for seven days.&nbsp;

The Eyes of Tammy Faye: Linda Dowds, Stephanie Ingram, and Justin Raleigh

Following the rise and fall of the televangelist family, the Bakker's, The Eyes of Tammy Faye&nbsp;required a lot of makeup. Following the life of TV personality, Tammy Faye, the movie's head makeup artist Linda Dowds wanted to recreate Faye's look to perfection without making fun. During her time, Faye was known for a lot of dramatic eye looks and was one of the first women to be seen on television was a lot of makeup. As her career evolved, Faye became mocked as a caricature of sorts, due to the amount of makeup she wore. While filming, Dowds made it a point to keep <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/fashion/jessica-chastain-actress-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jessica Chastain</a>'s rendition of Faye as close to the real actress as possible. Chastain always had big and dramatic eye makeup and overlined lips that highly resembled Faye's own looks.&nbsp;
The big factor in this movie was the prosthetics. Chastain had to wear a full neck wrap, get pieces to give her larger cheeks, a larger chin, and lip prosthetics to age her. The team also did "stretch and stipple" work to add age around the actress' eyes. Andrew Garfield, who plays Faye's husband Jim Bakker, had to go through prosthetic work as well. Although not as dramatic as Chastain's, Garfield was given a larger neck and larger facial features.

House of Gucci: G&ouml;ran Lundstr&ouml;m, Anna Carin Lock, and Frederic Aspiras

Although more known for its wardrobe, House of Gucci&nbsp;featured an amazing display of hair and makeup. G&ouml;ran Lundstr&ouml;m, Anna Carin Lock, and Frederic Aspiras transformed the film's stars into their iconic characters through long days spent in salon chairs.&nbsp;
For <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/fashion/lady-gaga-style-evolution-house-of-gucci-upcoming-film" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lady Gaga</a>, the crew evolved her makeup as her character became more involved with the Gucci family. Gaga started off with '70s glam, consisting of light makeup with lots of gloss. As her character gained status and the decades progressed, Gaga's makeup honed in on the Italian glam of the '80s, with more matte looks. For the 2000s era, Gaga's character was presented as more carefree, sporting messy hair and nude lips. Over the course of the film, Gaga's brunette hair changes shades and cuts thanks to the 10 wigs Aspiras made for her character. Instead of having the actress cut and dye her hair for the film, Aspiras created the looks he wanted to give Gaga through wigs.&nbsp;
For <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/film-tv/lady-gaga-adam-driver-on-set-house-of-gucci-movie-photo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Adam Driver,</a> his look remained pretty neutral throughout the film. He sported a sleek combed back hairstyle, that ranged from short to long depending on the decade.&nbsp;
For <a href="https://www.lofficiel.co.uk/pop-culture/the-cult-of-jared-leto" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jared Leto</a>'s character, Lundstr&ouml;m spent hours transforming Leto into Paolo Gucci. Lundstr&ouml;m was hired for only Leto's prosthetics and created all of the elements needed himself. From the bald cap to the prosthetics needed for a thicker nose, bigger cheeks, and a bigger neck, Leto was in heavy prosthetics the entire time.&nbsp;
