The 2025 Oscars have consecrated Anora , an independent film directed by Sean Baker , which won five statuettes, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress , awarded to American Mikey Madison . In the film with a very limited budget, she plays a young stripper who lives in a Russian-American neighborhood of Brooklyn. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Ivan “Vanya” Zakharov, the son of a powerful Russian oligarch. To introduce the film, Conan O&#39;Brien, who led the evening lightly, avoiding any jokes given the tense moment in the States, let himself go with a pro-Ukraine joke after Trump&#39;s harsh affront to President Zelensky: «I imagine Americans are happy to see someone who stands up to a powerful Russian». Emilia Pérez , who started as the favorite with 13 nominations, paid the price for old racist tweets from protagonist Karla Sofia Gascòn . Among the other super favorites, The Brutalist won three statuettes, Conclave the screenplay, no statuettes to be given to A Complete Unknown.

The films awarded in 2025 carry with them a powerful political message, becoming real manifestos and warnings for the present against political violence and racism. And there were many touching moments. From the broken voice of the speech of the directors of No Other Land , the Israeli-Palestinian collective formed by Basel Adra, Yuval Abraham, Rachel Szor and Hamdan Balla who won the award for Best Documentary , to Daryl Hannah&#39;s cry for Ukraine before giving the Oscar for Best Editing for Anora to Sean Baker, passing through the emotional speech of Adrien Brody , Best Actor in a Leading Role, &nbsp; against racism and anti-Semitism and that of Zoe Saldaña , Best Actress in a Leading Role who recalls her family history. Finally, Best International Film went to Brazil with I&#39;m Still Here , based on the 2015 memoir of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, about the disappearance of his father Rubens Paiva, desaparecido during the Brazilian military dictatorship. The protagonist Fernanda Torres plays Eunice Facciolla, the deputy&#39;s wife, who works to bring out the truth.
