Barbie and Ken, who stand for Barbara Millicent Roberts and Ken Carson, are the pair of fashion dolls created by Mattel, who have made entire generations of girls daydream. The two met in 1961 on the set of a TV commercial: black and white striped swimsuit for her, red shorts for him and a canary yellow towel to share. And the agreement is immediately triggered. The doll with long blond hair and the beach boy (initially with black hair) with a lean and sculpted physique soon become inseparable. Ken becomes the life partner of the most multifaceted doll ever. In addition to her glamorous image and a thousand looks for all occasions, Barbie will also dress as a cook, teacher, architect, veterinarian, doctor, actress, scientist and even astronaut. And Ken will not be outdone. However, what appears to be a flawless relationship will turn out to be more than just roses: On February 13, 2004, after 43 years of engagement, Barbie and Ken decided to separate. According to the biography written in these long years by Mattel, Barbie was then single for a period, despite a brief flirtation with the very young Australian surfer Blaine, brother of her friend Summer. The reasons for the break are unclear to date and the hypotheses put forward are different: there are those who claim that the two after a long period feel the need to spend time apart, those who claim that Ken did not feel ready for the big step who still believe that the media pressure on the couple had become too strong. We may never find out the truth, but what we do know for sure is that the two really can&#39;t let go: 7 years after the breakup and after their chance meeting on the set of Toy Story in 2010, Mattel creates an extraordinary marketing operation to bring the iconic couple together. The social campaign &ldquo;Should Barbie be back with Ken? and the BarbieandKen.com site is launched to fuel a hypothetical backfire that gives users the ability to decide by voting for yes or no. On Valentine&#39;s Day in 2011 , Mattel announces that the two are finally back together but the culmination of their love story still seems far away, no marriage or child in sight. And while there have been groom and bride looks for both Barbie and Ken, over the years, it was just &quot;doll&#39;s&quot; fiction. And maybe that&#39;s okay.
