Have you heard of "Stop Hate for Profit"? This campaign is a boycott of Facebook, which asks companies not to advertise on the platform during the month of July as a response to hateful content and misinformation spread by users on the network. Among the supporters there are none other than Meghan Markle and Prince Harry !
A source close to the couple announced that they has been interested in addressing the issue of hate speech online. "They have been working to encourage global CEOs to sympathize with a coalition of civil and racial justice groups such as NAACP, Color of Change and the Defamation Anti-League, which is calling for structural changes in our online world."
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have long worked on how to move the technology industry in a more human direction," says the source.
“I really enjoyed all the thoughtful conversations I had with the Duke and Duchess. Furthermore, I understand that they are using their platform to reach main companies and share the objectives of the #StopHateForProfit campaign ”says Rashad Robinson, president of Color of Change on his Twitter account.
The campaign website reports a number of reasons for companies to join the boycott. Among them is: "they allow incitement to violence against protesters who fight for racial justice in the United States"; and also “closed their eyes to the blatant suppression of voters on their platform”.
Several companies have already joined the movement, such as Coca Cola, Honda, Levi's, Patagonia and The North Face. The initiative's website has a complete list of brands that will adopt the boycott. According to the Bloomberg website since the beginning of the campaign, on June 17, Facebook has already lost about $ 7.2 billion!
