The ritual and spirit of Valentino's Haute Couture
Valentino's Haute Couture at last . Among the decorations in the Sala Grande of the Colonna Gallery in Rome, the co-ed Spring Summer 2021 collection by Pierpaolo Piccioli is digitally paraded, a hymn to ritual and to the human being. On the notes of Ritual Spirit (temporal) by Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack , the #CodeTemporal collection develops in a mysterious atmosphere and expresses the relationship between the human being and the values of high fashion. Time is analyzed as a value to reset the counters to zero, and to reprogram a new collection. A nihilist act proposed to create a new idea of contemporary Couture designed to freely tell one's individuality. Each garment is interpreted as a timeless object, each fabric is enriched by the craftsmanship of the Maison's tailors. Elevated and elongated silhouettes display the performative dressing ritual with layered looks and composed of fabrics characterized by three-dimensional surfaces: decorations of petals, ornaments re-created with folded and assembled ribbons, and applications of pearls and crystals of different sizes.

Hoods and skirts perforated by serial carvings bring a three-dimensionality to the silohuette creating surprising overlapping effects. The male wardrobe dialogues with the female one: large trench coats worn in contrast with tops and seraphs in iridescent colors, metallic fabrics and sequins are developed on knitwear vests, dresses and jumpsuits. Pierpaolo Piccioli samples for this collection a series of warm and cold shades, neutrals and acrylic colors that are accompanied by bold colors that capture the attention with lurex and metallic materials.
The collaboration with Robert Del Naja recodes the Couture system with a documentary video that presents the process of creating the collection by collecting the making of in the Atelier, the serial photographic shots and the time lapse of the work in progress on the tailoring busts that are summarized in algorithmic sequences and musically arranged by artist Mario Klingemann's machine . A real and digital dialogue that represents the search for a new humanism.
